I wrote my daughters this letter when they graduated from high school, almost 10 years ago. The ideas are worth revisiting and good for all of us to remember.
The years have flown by for me. It seems like just yesterday I was pregnant with you both in my tummy. It is hard for me to let you go, but I know you will fly. You are both lovely, caring, free thinking, and sassy (which I love) young ladies. I am so proud of you. I am blessed to be your mom. I want to share some pearls of wisdom with you. Grandma says one day you will think I am smart 🙂
You are loved. You are loved more than you could ever know. No matter where life takes you, the love is with you.
Be positive. Things are what you make them. Look on the bright side.
Only you can make it a good day.
You cannot change people; only your reaction to them. Embrace others who are different than you. Laugh and see the humor.
Don’t settle for someone. Make sure the partner you pick cherishes you and treats you like you deserve, with love and respect. In turn, treat you partner the same way. Relationships take work. Do something to make each other smile. Little things matter.
You are beautiful inside and out.
Work hard at whatever you do and don’t give up!
Be a friend to each other and your brothers. Someday you will need each other.
Pray every day. When your troubles are overwhelming, give them to God. He is always with you.
Do something nice for someone else every day. This will make you happy.
Call you mom when you need her (and when you don’t). Mom’s know everything.
Love who you are today and appreciate each moment you have in this life.
It’s OK to be uncomfortable when you do new things. This means you are growing. Do the uncomfortable things.
HAVE FUN!
Forgive others. Nobody is perfect (except Grandma).
You are worth it.
Laugh at yourself. We are all weird.
Try new things.
Don’t be afraid to love.
